History of Radha Soami Beas
Baba Jaimal Singh started the Dera Byas. He was initiated by Master Shiv Dayal Singh popularly known as “Soami Ji”. Soami Ji was the founder of the Radha Soami faith. The famous Samadhi of Soami Ji is at Dayal Bagh Agra. Soami Ji lived from 1818-1878. Baba Jaimal Singh was initiated at a very young age later he also served the then Indian army and after retirement laid the foundation of Dera Baba Jaimal Singh at Beas. The core idea of the spiritual movement is the Presence of a living master (Guru) Baba Jaimal Singh was succeeded by Master Baba Sawan Singh (1905-1948). Baba Jagat Singh (1948-1951) Baba Charan Singh (1951-1990) Baba Gurinder Singh (1990-Present).

Philosophy of Radha Soami Beas
The movement started by Baba Jaimal Singh is called “Sant Matt” it means wisdom and the intellect of the saints and the way professed by the saints. The Dera believes in the philosophy of the saints and masters such as Guru Nanak Sahib, Sant Kabir, Soami Ji Maharaj and so many more. According to the belief, the Satsang or the congregation and the devotee should be guided by a true living master. The living master initiates the devotees on a true spiritual path. Before being initiated the devotee must adhere to these basic principles.
What the devotees must follow?
1) Lead a Lacto Vegetarian way of life.
2) Earn his lively hood through the righteous way
3) Shun all forms of intoxicants. No alcohol, no Tobacco no to all forms of drugs.
4) Volunteer for selfless service to society and humankind.
On adhering to these basic principles the true living master initiates the devotee as his spiritual follower and becomes his spiritual guide. The devotee is excepted to practice mediation and repetition of the sacred word for at least 2.5 hours every day. Apart from this, there are no special rituals that a devotee is supposed to adhere to. The devotee can attend the Satsang at various nodal Satsang centers (There are Satsang centers in 100 countries out of India).
Who is the spiritual master of Satsang Beas?
The devotee can also come down to attend the live congregation of the spiritual master. Baba Gurinder Singh resides at the Dera Beas with his family. The devotees are excepted to lead a normal righteous family life and rear their kids and families in a righteous way through hard-earned righteous money. The Guru or the living master leads the devotee on a spiritual journey. The Dera does not proposes or intends for a change in devotees’ religion. The Dera is not a religion.

The Dera is spread on an area of approximately 3000 acres. The Radha Soami Satsang Beas is a registered N.G.O. More than 1.5 million visitors visit the Dera center in a year. They can live over here free of cost. All the management and work at the Dera are taken care of by the Volunteers. The Volunteers serve, cook at the community Kitchen where the devotees have free food. The volunteers also operate the hospital in the Dera. There are three charitable hospitals run by the society serving more than 2000 patients daily. On the day of the Satsang of the living master, the Dera looks like a bustling town with hordes of devotees everywhere but everything goes on in strict discipline and with ease. The new construction of the Dera goes on round the clock and the volunteers serve at these projects selflessly.

The Dera does not align with any political or religious organization and the Dera courses are only targeted at spiritual upliftment. The other centers in Indian cities hold the Satsang once a week on Sunday which is an official holiday in India. The buses collect the devotees and ferry them to the center where after attending the Satsang they drive back to their respective homes. The Satsang does not differentiates or discriminates on the basis of caste, color, religion, etc. All humanity is treated alike.
