Abstract

This research is conducted to improvement the activities and abilities of critical thinking by students using group investigation model with the inquiring minds want to knowstrategy. This research is a classroom action research (CAR). The receiver subject of action are the students of class VIII D SMP Al-Islam 1 Surakarta counted 36 students and the giver subject of action are mathematics teacher collaborated with the researcher. The method of collecting data was conducted by observation, documentation, and notes field sheet. The technical of analyzing data consists of: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research result shows the improvement activities and students abilities of critical thinking through Group investigation model with inquiring minds want to know strategy. It can be seen by the percentage increasing of activity indicators, (1) doing exercise questions in front of class before the treatment 38,88% became 61,11%, (2) answering questions given by the teacher before the treatment 30,55% raised become 80,56%. While on indicators of critical thinking ability, that was (1) asking avarious questions according to the learning concept before the treatment 8,33% became 63,88%, (2) proposing idea, opinion, and comments before the treatment 13,88% became69,44%, (3) solving mathematics problem before the treatment 25% become 80,56%. From this research, can be concluded that application the Group investigation model with inquiring minds want to know strategy can improvement the activities and abilities of critical thinking by students in mathematics learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the increasing of communication skills andsolving mathematical problems with the subject VIIIG grade students of SMP Negeri1 Juwiring the academic year 2015/2016 through think talk write strategy. This studyis a classroom action research. The technique of collecting data throughobservation, testing, field notes, and documentation. Data analysis techniquesinclude the reduction of the data, the presentation of data, and the withdrawal of theconclusion. For the validity of the data used the technique of triangulation. Theresults showed the increasing of communication skills: 1) write: express or reflectshis thoughts in writing (poured on the paper / stationery etc.) before action 7students (21.87%) after the action of 24 students (75%), 2) drawing: express ideasthrough symbols, charts, diagrams or other images, to clarify the circumstances of aproblem before the act of 8 students (25.00%) after action 24 students (75.00%), 3)express of mathematical ideas through oral and demonstrate and describe it visuallyto obtain solving strategies problems before action 6 students (18.75%) after action23 students (71.87%). While the increasing of mathematical problem solving can beseen from: 1) understand the problem before action of 12 students (37.50%) afteraction 23 students (71.87%), 2) settlement of the problem before the action plan of10 students (31.25%) after the act of 25 students (78.12%), 3) implementingappropriate problem-solving action plan before 9 students (28.12%) after action 24students (75.00%). Based on the description above concluded that theimplementation strategy think talk write can improve communication and solvingmathematical problems.
